Short Story

Frictionless: Overcoming the Drags that Shut Down Innovation is about identifying the invisible psychological and organizational forces that kill big ideas and learning how to release the “parking brake” on progress. It is a guide for anyone tired of seeing brilliant concepts smothered by the “Shutdown Symphony” of corporate resistance.

My name is Eric Corey Freed, and I am the author of Frictionless. I wrote this book because, after 35 years of being a “Professional Pesterer” pushing clients toward bold ideas, I realized that innovation isn’t an “idea” problem—it’s an “implementation” problem. We are evolutionarily and culturally wired to resist change, and I wanted to provide a set of concrete tools to bypass that resistance.

My hope is that, in reading this book, you will discover how to identify the hidden frictions—fake, real, imagined, and created—that are currently slowing you down. In this book, I hope to instill in you the same sort of “Why Not?” passion that I have for disrupting the status quo. Ultimately, I want you to see this book as a tool to help you move your projects from “stalled” to “frictionless”.

In this book, you’ll learn about the physics of the “No” and the chemistry of the “Yes”:

  • The Brain’s Bouncer: How your amygdala—the brain’s threat-detection expert—is actively convincing your team that your innovation is a threat to their survival.
  • The F.R.I.C. Taxonomy: How to distinguish between “Fake Friction” (habit) and “Real Friction” (logistics) so you stop fighting the wrong battles.
  • The 4-Day Work Week Experiment: A deep dive into how “Imagined Frictions” almost killed a policy that eventually boosted both profit and sanity.

You will love this book if you are an intrapreneur fighting the corporate “immune system,” a team lead tired of unproductive meetings, or an entrepreneur who wants to scale without the bloat.

Frictionless is a nonfiction book that speaks to The Rebels and The Bottleneck Breakers who are looking at Implementation Science and Behavioral Psychology as the real keys to success for the first time.

The book is written in 4 Parts:

  • Part 1: The Forces of Drag (Chapters 1–9) explores the physics of why ideas stall. We’ll dive into every angle of how friction causes drag, starting with the “brain’s bouncer”—the amygdala—and how it triggers the “Shutdown Symphony” of excuses that kill innovation before it even has a chance to breathe.
  • Part 2: The Taxonomy of Friction (Chapters 10–13) provides a detailed breakdown of the four archetypes of resistance: Fake, Real, Imagined, and Created. You’ll learn to stop using “Real” logic to fight “Fake” habits and how to finally shine a light on the “Imagined” monsters that keep your team paralyzed in the status quo.
  • Part 3: The Frictionless Framework (Chapters 14–17) is your tactical roadmap. We’ll move into how to actively map these frictions, deploy specific strategies to overcome the drags, and identify the hidden landmines that often sabotage even the most well-intentioned implementation plans.
  • Part 4: Applying the Frictionless Mindset brings the theory into the real world. You’ll learn how to apply this framework to everything from managing high-stakes projects and boosting team productivity to reaching your own personal goals by finally releasing the internal parking brake.
